Crip I really appreciate your offer, and I'm more than happy to upgrade.

I tried yesterday and today, to upgrade the software which I thought I'd be capable of doing through the "Admin Panel" ..  And I did back-up the site in the Admin. Panel just in case I wiped the site out in the process. At least I think I backed it up properly...

It wouldn't allow me to make the switch. So I was reading through the SMF Manual and the way I interpreted it, I should have been capable of the switch through the Forum Admin Panel.

When trying to download several different attempts, I continually received this message.

"Error
The package you tried to upload either is not a valid package or has become corrupted. "

Is this something where the site needs to be in the "Off Mode" where as not to have members online while in the process of Downloading?

And ZarPrime,
You're right Jeff's offer is a fantastic deal... Hopefully I can pull off the upgrade...  :crazy2:

                                 Thanks again,
                                                     Cycle

Bro '
you just need the 2.0.3=>Large\Upgrade Package , Ftp:// and that's it.
this site was once was "(SMF 1.1)" until I decided to upgrade.

*/* http://download.simplemachines.org/

You do not use the Package Manager to 2.0 upgrade , you download
the Zip , and FTP [all] of it = up to where all your forum is now ,
+ overwrite everything there ., then run the UPGRADE.PHP which
takes about 10min. Max =>

but i'd Back Up everything 1.st.. your Database and all of your
FILES AND FOLDERS
just incase of a bobo happens you got them safe.

Well first I had to get the FTP server info username/password. It took a few days to obtain from the Hosting Service. After obtaining that and logging on, I realized I'd be in over my head trying to make the swap.   :o

It would probably be like asking/telling someone here to do a Valve Shim adjustment on their motorcycle to clear up a rough idle on the bike.... I know, I  know, most of you just shook your head and thought to yourselves... What did he just say?  while rubbing your foreheads...   :crazy2:

That's how I felt when I went in to the FTP Server Data Base... I looked at all those folders, and said to myself, where would I begin?   :idiot2:

So I poked around a little bit and said (out loud) let me walk away before I wipe something out...   :2funny:

Is there a particular folder/file I would be looking for to start in?

Example:  File:.htpasswd

                         forum

                        File:index.htm

                                                Thanks,
                                                          Cycle

Lol..
You really should understand what your doing so , I do suggest you go to SMF 2.0 Support and ask them where/how to upgrade , I'm sure it's been asked before..

Thanks, Jeff and members for pointing me in the right direction. I asked for assistance over on simplemachines.org and a fellow going by the screen name "mashby" made the upgrade/conversion from 1.1.17 to 2.0.4 to our forum. It was a smooth transition, and took him about 15 minutes or so.

I couldn't thank him enough, and he's awesome. 8)   He also uses a "Crip" theme on his site, and is impressed with Jeff's work.

I hope to stick around here at CripZone and maybe learn something.   :)

Crip

Jeff,

I'm sorry to hear that, but it's ok.

We did find another theme of yours that we like, however the color is what is holding us up from making the switch. Is it possible to change one color in a theme to the Vintage Green Color?

Crip

yes , it's possible with some work -
--which Theme is it ?
