Title: Updated Themes!!!
Post by: Skhilled on Feb 07, 19, 11:32:12 AM
Jeff's themes have not been updated in a long time. However, I've been playing around with them and learning to convert them to the new SMF 2.1 RC1 that was just released! When I finish a theme I will post it here.

Please keep in mind that I'm no Jeff or Maxx! LOL It will take me quite awhile to do one theme because I'm not used to doing this and am not a real coder. I can easily make small adjustments to themes but have never created them from scratch myself.

Currently, I'm working on the Abyssal theme. You can see the progress here:

Fantastic news! I'm sure Jeff would be pleased that another generation of users can enjoy his themes.  :)

I 've been working on one theme but had problems and switched to trying another I thought might be easier. After a few days I was informed that I needed to disable "minify JS anf jQuery" in the admin while updating themes then things started falling into place. Here's the original theme:

And here's what I'm working on for SMF 2.1 RC1:

There's still a ways to go before completion but I'm getting there and learning a lot!  8)

Looks good from here.  :)

I'll have to make a 2nd demo site because of the upgrades to SMF. I'll do it after I complete the first theme.

Since I also like myBB forums, I may try to make these for that as well once I learn how to do these. I'll also make images specifically for Tinyportal and other portals.

That sounds interesting. Not sure Jeff ever tried that? He was pretty much into SMF.

Don't forget to give Crip some credit if you use his stuff though.  :)

It will always be his stuff! LOL

Check the footer now... Your opinion does matter! Be honest about things.

I'm not seeing a footer with credits or versions?

Am I looking at the right site/page?

Yes, looking good.  O0

What do you think about "updated by Skhilled" after crip?

Was thinking of doing that for awhile now but just haven't got around to it.

Somehow I don't think Jeff would mind?  8)

With the help of a couple of the SMF staff, I got the "boxed" look fixed finally! Most, if not all, of Jeff's themes look like this:

https://skhilled.com/rc2/index.php (https://skhilled.com/rc2/index.php)
EDIT: Curves2 is a beast to edit.  >:( They've combined a lot of the classes into one in many places. So, you have to separate them to get exactly what you want. On the upside, I've been learning a lot by doing it this way.
If you want in to have a look around let me know...

Do I need to sign up to see things or am I seeing it using the link?

Keep up the good work. A lot of people use Crip's themes and would benefit from an updated theme when they go to newer version of SMF.

Yes, you would need to register to see some things and I was going to suggest that so you can give your input. Just keep in mind that a lot of things are not completed or even have been worked on yet like the admin section.

Curves2 is a pita! They've condensed a lot of the classes together. So, when you edit one thing it does the same for the others that are grouped with it.  >:( That mean you'd have to figure out the differences and separate them to make a specific thing work! I'm not good with this like Maxx and Jeff so I have to learn my way through this while they are constantly changing/upgrading the code.  :crazy2:

But I have been learning a lot.  8)

EDIT: For instance, look at the differences between the footers in these two versions. The first is the original. The 2nd is the new version. Which do you think is better?

The 2nd link is the new one Les and I are working on. That's the site you're supposed to register at:

I registered but waiting on Admin approval?  :)

I got logged in. Looking good so far.  :)

Noticed that I had to look around for a place to log in. Only "Sign UP" was visible. Found the small Login or Signup at the top and used that.

Yes, that is the new look for SMF RC2.1. But I can add a menu button as well.

Switch to the default theme, Curves2, so you can see the new default theme unmodified.

I changed to Curve just to check it out. Looks OK to me? Would take some getting used to but shouldn't take too long. I see Notifications, Likes and a few other things in the software now. Would help those who use social media?

Keep up the good work! O0

Thanks, yes, they've added those two and drafts. Those 3 were the biggest mods out, imo.
But...I plan on adding some new things as things progress. I don't have too much more to do on the Ornament theme and then I'll work on the CleanWhite theme since my friend Ken likes it so much.

Loving the CleanWhite for my forum... thank you, Steve.  O0 O0

Ps: No doubt in my mind that Jeff is looking down on your efforts and loving it!

The SMF 2.1 version is just about ready. Hopefully soon SMF 2.1RC3 will be out.
