Has social media made forums obsolete?

I visited some old forums that I hadn't seen in some time. Lots of discussion about social media and how it has affected forums.

What do you think?

Skhilled

That has been a long time discussion for a number of years. But I believe that sooner or later social media will die down/off and forums or something else will take their place.

Scrubmeister

I have seen a steady decline in forum use. Just checked some old forums I used to visit and they are gone. Not too surprising though since the industry I used to be in is also in decline.

Makes me wonder how much effort we should put into these forums?

Skhilled

Yeah, I hear ya. I think they will return but the question is when...

There are still a lot of thriving forums out there but have a niche that everyone wants.

Scrubmeister

Kind of reminds me of CB radio. Its still around but peaked in the late '70's.

I'm guessing something else will come along. Not sure what yet.............
